ECO4 Scheme: Over 4 Million Energy-Saving Measures Installed
As of today, the ECO scheme has helped over 2.5 million households in the UK since 2013, installing more than 4 million measures, from insulation to modern heating systems.
So far, at the end of June 2024, over 189,000 homes have benefited from the ECO4 scheme, including 590,000 upgrades completed so far. As such, this scheme is focused on improving homes with poor energy ratings (below D, E, F, and G), contributing to the UK’s goal of Net Zero by 2050.
What is the ECO4 Scheme?
ECO4 is a UK government scheme designed to upgrade energy-inefficient homes for free. It provides 100% free boiler replacements, first-time central heating installation, air source heat pumps, and insulation for low-income households.
ECO4 targets those households with low ratings in the EPC register: E, F, G. It therefore leads to a reduction in energy bills, improves comfort in homes, and supports Net Zero by 2050 in the UK.

Free Boiler Grants
Your old, inefficient boilers really waste a lot of energy and cost you more ultimately to heat your home. Under the ECO4 Scheme, you can have your old boiler replaced with a new A-rated energy-efficient boiler-fully free. New boilers can achieve efficiencies of up to 94% for better heating, with lower energy bills of up to £650 per annum.
First Time Central Heating Grants
Many homes within the UK rely on very expensive electric heaters or have no central heating at all. If your house has never had a gas central heating system, this ECO4 Scheme will provide the full funding to install an A-rated boiler, including radiators, thermostatic radiator valves, and all the pipework needed.
Air Source Heat Pump Grants
Air source heat pumps are environmentally friendly and cost-effective ways of heating, and extracting heat from the air itself to efficiently warm your home and reduce dependence on gas and fossil fuels. With the ECO4 grants, eligible homes can get fully funded heat pump installations joined with free solar panels that maximise savings.
Free Insulation Grants
A poorly insulated home loses up to 35% of its heat through the walls, roof, and floors, thus leading to higher energy bills as well. The ECO4 Scheme provides free cavity wall, loft, and floor insulation to keep the heat inside your home. Thus it helps improve energy efficiency, reduce heating costs, and effortlessly keeps your home warm.

The EPC gives a rating, which indicates the current energy efficiency in a home. Very low ratings relate to E, F, and G, meaning therefore higher energy costs.
